As we have been through the Safety rules, it is time to start with the first part of the Shooting technique which is Stance.
Even if it seems pretty simple looking from the outside, a shooting stance has several key points we need to take into consideration in order to have it set up properly, especially with new shooters.
In order to explain a shooting stance or a shooting position of an Air Pistol shooter we first need to ask ourselves two questions, to have a better understanding of the topic.
- What makes a good shooting stance?
- What are the steps we need to complete to have a good shooting stance?
Now let us define these two questions:
The answer to the first question would be that our stance is the one that provides us with stability and a minimum arc of movement when we aim/shoot. Also our stance needs to be comfortable, natural and easily retaken if necessary.
The answer to the second question is that once we approach the firing line, we need to make sure the following is done:
-Distance between our feet needs to be shoulder width or a bit less.
-Feet need to be free from any tension and naturally going side ways.
-Right hip needs to be aligned with the target.
Now we have outlined the basic steps of taking a correct stance, we can go further and in more detail.
Also both coaches and shooters need to be aware that the aforementioned is just a first step, as the stance can be set up and adjusted to the shooter based on his/her individual needs. We also need to take into account any possible medical conditions the shooter may have.
In the next post I will explain all of the points of the stance one by one.
